This time, we head to the Catinaccio/Rosengarten massif and climb Roda di Vaèl/Rotwand—a scenic peak at 2,806 meters above sea level. We start at the Paolina cable car in Carezza, pass the famous eagle monument, pass Rifugio Roda di Vaèl and Baita Pederiva, encounter marmots, and then head higher—to the rocks, exposures, and the Roda di Vaèl via ferrata. The route features steel ropes, rope clamps, loose descents, and views of the Catinaccio, Latemar, Marmolada, and Sella Group. This isn't a via ferrata for the first time, but for those with experience, equipment, and a steady footing, it can be a great option for a more challenging day in the Dolomites.
