Qigong for a Happy Spine | Functional and Energetic Movement

Our modern lifestyles result in a lot of stiffness and stagnation in the spine, which really impacts on our whole range of movement, and even our mood. This is a qigong sequence to strengthen and develop flexibility in the spine, so that you are able to move with ease. Movement of the spinal column also has a range of benefits beyond functional movement, supporting emotional and psycho-spiritual wellbeing: movement of the spine supports regulation of our mental and emotional states through the autonomic nervous system which anatomically branches down the spinal column. In some Indian and Chinese wisdom traditions - including Qigong - energetic movement through the spinal column is an important pathway for refining and transforming consciousness. This sequence focuses firstly on functional movement to extend and flex the spine, and then on integrating spinal movement in to wider body based movements, and finally tuning in to the energetic flow within the body to circulate it up and down the central channel. This sequence is inspired by YOQI Qigong Flow method of my teacher, Marisa Cranfil.
