유명선수들의 찌름-PART 01

Famous Kendoka’s TSUKI – PART 01 An Invitation to the World of Kendo, Video No. 2 This is the second video in the Invitation to the World of Kendo series. It took a bit longer than expected, but I hope you enjoy it. In this video, I briefly share my personal views on the potential risks of TSUKI (thrusting technique) in matches, as well as the importance of TANREN (鍛錬, disciplined and repeated training for mastery). The main focus of this video is PART 01 of a compilation of TSUKI ippon by famous kendoka, many of whom have now become legends. In particular, this video centers on TAKANABE Susumu, who is as renowned for his TSUKI as others are for MEN strikes. From multiple angles, the video closely captures the SEME (pressure and initiative before the attack), movement, posture, and correct KISSAKI control (blade tip awareness) prior to executing TSUKI. I hope this video can serve as a practical reference for TSUKI techniques in real match situations. TSUKI is undoubtedly one of the official techniques in Kendo, and when truly mastered, it can become a powerful and effective weapon. However, due to its technical nature, TSUKI carries a higher risk of injury and accidents compared to other techniques. For this reason, it is strongly recommended that one performs dozens, hundreds, or even thousands of repetitions through keiko and TANREN, until the technique becomes fully refined and personal, before attempting it boldly in competition. Practicing TSUKI also offers unique benefits: it helps develop the ability to read the opponent, refine maai (distance control), grasp precise timing, maintain correct posture, and achieve accurate target control—all of which are essential elements of high-level Kendo. Please continue watching through PART 02, and enjoy the video. The subtitles and explanations in this video reflect personal opinions and may differ from formal interpretations or established principles. Please view them as one perspective only, and kindly note that some captions were added for interest and clarity. No misunderstanding is intended. These TSUKI videos are provided for reference purposes only. TSUKI techniques should be learned through proper instruction from your dojo instructor.
