After retiring as an active player and becoming a coach, I assumed he was focusing solely on his capabilities as a coach. However, it seems his journey in Kendo is still ongoing. Like athlete Cho Jin-yong, he proved through this tournament that he is expanding, deepening, and solidifying his own unique world of Kendo. I thought it hadn't been long since his last victory, but he achieved the remarkable feat of reclaiming the championship six years after the 20th 7th Dan Tournament in 2020. Although he finished as runner-up two years ago after losing to Coach Kim Hwang-sun of Woosuk University, in this 26th 7th Dan Tournament, he imprinted himself as a great athlete by proudly conquering the championship podium for the third time in his career amidst a close-quarters battle against 94 illustrious swordsmen—including past winners and a large number of 7th Dan players. In particular, Lee Kang-ho’s waist strikes (reverse waist, opposite waist, retreating waist) shone brightly in this tournament. These were techniques rarely seen before, and as expected of a player capable of anything, he fully demonstrated peak performance, rivaling his days as an active athlete. Therefore, I have created a highlight video focusing on these techniques from the Round of 64 to the finals, essentially serving as a compilation of his reverse waist strikes.
