lava boat tech compendium

if anyone else has anything interesting with lava + boats feel free to share it and if there's enough i'll make a volume 2. this is mostly just an excuse to show off the damageless lava boat jump because i thought it was cool (and also to take the no fire res crossing out of the annals of 2023 javacord) == everything prior to the backups section is just existing tech and it feels sensible to include everything i know about boats and lava in one video 1 (0:02). if you hold W you can lose the boat. just hold space and repeatedly place the boat in front of you and get in it. if you instead hold just W and no space, it's harder and a bit faster (though you can still lose the boat, just a bit less often) 2 (0:15). same as before but you can hold W and still pick up the boat because the ceiling pushes you down 3 (0:26). when falling from some heights you physically cannot enter the boat because you are too far above it and it burns too quickly, so this is the best you can do to avoid fall damage or sinking deep into the lava 4 (0:32). no comment needed, just a normal boat clutch into lava basically 5 (0:37). this always burns the boat and is probably never worth doing unless you have spare wood or dont care about your boat for whatever reason 6 (0:46). if you get sticky boat you will likely die because the boat burns before you land on it. if there's nearby land you can instead enter the boat to pick it up and try to go towards the land as if you had fire res, but you'll burn to death within a few seconds == the backups section is largely my own ideas with the exception of qcom's original idea of travelling across lava with 2 or more boats 7 (0:52). this idea requires you to place the boat, enter the boat, exit the boat immediately, and then jump. i'm not confident enough about which tick each action needs to happen on to specify here; if someone more familiar with lotas wants to experiment then feel free to comment about it but i don't want to deal with testing it without being able to tick advance 8 (0:59). starting the cycle is the hardest part; once you get going it's basically just repeating the same inputs over and over. the two consistent-ish ways i found to start it were to either get sticky boat on the first boat place + landing or to not get sticky boat and wait 1 tick before jumping off the boat. after that, your goal should be to get sticky boat on each placement (although you can still continue without it but you need to be sure to not jump too early) and you should basically always be able to pick the boat back up and place it down again. you can be sprinting but you MUST NOT jump while holding W if you want to be able to pick up the boat consistently, you have to move forward in small increments. 9 (1:20). not much to add, this is just a combination of previous clips 10 (1:27). on top of the difficulty of doing the no fall damage jump, whether or not you pick up the boat after is inconsistent. if anyone ever pulls this off in a real run after falling in lava then congrats
