Episode 32; 'Ngāti Maru's Turn' - the fall of Te Tōtara Pā
In November 1821 Hongi Hika and his Ngāpuhi army laid waste to Auckland. After victory celebrations are finished Hongi moves on to Thames to attack the Ngāti Maru Pā of Te Tōtara. This episode covers the fall of Te Tōtara and the return of Ngāpuhi to the Bay of Islands. (NB: my place marker for Te Tōtara Pā on maps has it spelt wrong... my apologies) Question: What about the dogs in Te Tōtara Pā, surely they would have heard Ngāpuhi coming....am I right!
