I experienced the Bali Taxi Mafia firsthand — and it’s something every traveler should know about. Here’s what really happens when you land in Bali and try to grab a taxi. The Bali Taxi Mafia refers to groups of local taxi drivers and associations that control specific tourist areas in Bali, preventing outside competition, particularly from ride-hailing services like Grab and Gojek, often through intimidation and threats. We booked a ferry from Gili Air to Bali, docking at Serangan Port. While checking the reviews of the port, I stumbled across "The Bali Taxi Mafia" and how tourists have been harassed, followed, and scammed by the local people of Serangan in Bali. I wanted to create this video to raise awareness of this scam (as someone who has visited Bali twice and never heard about it). Hopefully, this can make enough noise that the Indonesian Government to see this video and the poor reviews, step in and do something about it. It is wrong what these people are doing; they do not have taxi licenses and are wrongly stopping cars from driving into the area. Allegedly the Bali police will not get involved because they have “bigger priorities”. Bali is a beautiful place with 95% of the people the loveliest and hardest working humans you’ll ever meet, but this scam is putting a bad name on them and that’s not fair.
