What is Celtic mythology?

What is it today and can we really pin it down? This is an attempt to ask the awkward question underneath the usual answers, following the tradition from medieval manuscripts into far stranger territory: why most of it now happens in English, the long shadow of Tolkien, and a sprawling modern world that has grown into the living definition. The lines are blurry, and what it is may be moving out of our hands entirely.
