House of Lords Tributes to Michael Lord Ramsey of Canterbury, Archbishop of Canterbury

Tributes to the late Rt. Rev. and Rt. Hon. Lord Ramsey of Canterbury at the start of the sitting for 25th April 1988. These tributes are to the former Archbishop of Canterbury Michael Ramsey, who was given a customary life peerage upon retirement in 1974, and who first sat in the Lords as Bishop of Durham (1952-6), then Archbishop of York (1956-61). Since Archbishops of Canterbury started retiring in 1928, it has been customary to ennoble them with baronies, then life peerages following the enactment of the Life Peerages Act 1958.
