What if academic failure wasn't inevitable? My guest is Marwan Mohammed, a sociologist, researcher at the CNRS (French National Centre for Scientific Research), and lecturer at Sciences Po. And yet, nothing predestined him for such a career: he failed his middle school diploma, was placed in a vocational training program, and didn't complete his high school diploma. Marwan was long "outside the system" of the traditional education system. It was thanks to community education, key encounters, and a fierce desire to understand the world that he resumed his studies and became one of the leading researchers on the dynamics of working-class neighborhoods. Today, he analyzes the mechanisms of delinquency and discrimination in France. Through his own journey, he rejects the myth of the "self-made man" and reminds us that all success is first and foremost a collective endeavor rooted in solidarity. Through his work and his autobiographical book, "It Wasn't a Sure Thing! From School Failure to the CNRS: The Story of a Comeback," he shows us that our paths are never truly set in stone.
