The Volkswagen Corrado VR6 can be said to be a milestone in the development history of front-wheel drive (FF) cars. With the rise of civilian cars after World War II, car manufacturers switched from rear-wheel drive layout to front-wheel drive, taking advantage of the advantages of large cabin space and easy control. During the development of front-wheel drive vehicles, each car manufacturer used its own approach, and each other was in the exploratory period in terms of engine design, transmission and suspension layout. Coming to the Volkswagen Corrado car series launched in 1988, it replaced the previous two generations of Scirocco, but both were actually two-door coupes developed based on the Golf. Later, the Corrado was the first to be equipped with a large-displacement car. The VR6 six-cylinder engine, named Corrado VR6, became the hot hatch of the year. At that time, the technology of front-wheel drive with large displacement engine was not yet mature, but Volkswagen cleverly used it to create the VR6 engine. In addition to the small size and light weight of the engine, Volkswagen also thought of some ways to make it more efficient.
