Is My Child’s Play Normal? Understanding Play Schemas
Is your child’s play repetitive, intense, messy, or just… different? Many parents worry their child’s play isn’t “normal” but often, it’s actually a play schema. In this video, I explain play schemas in simple, parent-friendly language so you can understand what your child’s play is really telling you. You’ll learn: What play schemas are and why children use them Why some children repeat the same play over and over Common play schemas (throwing, lining up, spinning, filling and emptying) Why schema play can look worrying to adults, but usually isn’t When repetitive play is typical and when extra support may help How parents can support learning through their child’s natural play This video is for parents of toddlers and preschoolers who feel unsure, confused, or concerned about how their child plays and want reassurance grounded in child development, not trends. Understanding play schemas can reduce anxiety, improve connection, and help you respond calmly and confidently to your child’s play. Play is learning, even when it doesn’t look like it.
