This Portuguese-style cod (or cod in the Portuguese style) is a very easy and delicious cod recipe, perfect for enjoying this nutritious fish any day of the week. The Portuguese-style cod recipe we know in Spain is actually Braga-style cod (bacalhau à Braga), very similar to Narcisa-style cod (bacalhau à Narcisa) or Minho-style cod. All of these come from northern Portugal, and the main difference is the addition of peppers to the sofrito. Discover how to make Portuguese-style cod by following the step-by-step instructions in this video: 00:00 Portuguese-style cod recipe 00:14 Chop and sauté the vegetables 01:24 Slice the potatoes and soak them 01:47 Once the vegetables are softened, add the vinegar and paprika 02:40 Dry the potato slices and fry them 03:24 Dry the cod fillets, coat them in flour, and fry them. 04:27 Final presentation of Portuguese-style cod PORTUGUESE-STYLE COD (BACALHAU À BRAGA) 🛒 Ingredients (Serves 4): 🔸 4 fillets of desalted or lightly salted cod 🔹 1 kg potatoes (35.7 oz) 🔸 1 red bell pepper 🔹 1 green bell pepper 🔸 2 onions 🔹 2 cloves of garlic 🔸 1 teaspoon sweet paprika (1 tsp) 🔹 20 ml vinegar (2 tablespoons) (4 tsp) 🔸 A handful of black olives 🔹 A little chopped fresh parsley 🔸 Flour for coating the fish 🔹 Oil for frying 🔸 1 bay leaf 🍳 Portuguese-style Cod Recipe, step by step: 1️⃣ Mince the garlic cloves. Slice the onions into julienne strips and the bell peppers into strips. 2️⃣ In a large frying pan, add about 4 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil and the chopped garlic. Turn on the heat to low. Before the garlic browns, add the onion and bell peppers along with a pinch of salt and the bay leaf. Sauté over medium heat until the vegetables are tender. Before they are fully cooked, add the vinegar and, once it has evaporated, add the paprika and cook for a few seconds. Set the vegetables aside. 3️⃣ While the vegetables are cooking, peel the potatoes, slice them thinly, and soak them in water (this removes the outer starch and makes them crispier). Dry them with paper towels or a clean kitchen towel. Fry them in plenty of oil (I do this in batches so they don't stick together and the oil temperature doesn't drop too much). Place them on absorbent paper to remove the excess oil. Then, sprinkle with salt to taste. 4️⃣ Remove some of the oil used to fry the potatoes, leaving about an inch. Dry the cod very well with paper towels and coat it in flour. When the oil is hot, fry it on both sides. My fillets weren't very thick and only needed a minute and a half per side (if it were thicker, fry for two minutes). 5️⃣ Serve immediately as follows: place a bed of potatoes on the bottom of the plate, top with the fish, and then the vegetables.
