Super sized transport takes over town centre as police escort 356 tonne generator

A 356 tonne generator is suspended between two trailers as it is transported through the centre of Ipswich, Suffolk. The oversized load prompts the road to be closed by police and street furniture to be removed. Allelys transported the Siemens Energy generator, weighing 356 tonnes, from the Port of Ipswich to the Eye Synchronous Condenser Plant (read more: https://conradenergy.co.uk/energy-gen... ) in Yaxley, Suffolk on Sunday, 18th August. The overall transport was 81 metres in length. The heavy load took an unusual route to avoid as many bridges as possible, to reduce the risk of damage. Street furniture had to be moved and roads closed. Traffic was disrupted as a result. There were points where the tractors had to swap around to allow the very long load to travel in a different direction; like a train. Suffolk & Norfolk Police Roads & Armed Policing Team (RAPT) escorted the abnormal load from Ipswich to Yaxley. Several police cars and motorcycles were used to shutdown roads as the abnormal load moved. A Tesla police vehicle led the escort.
