PMS: Mehr als bloß ein Hormonchaos | NANO Doku

It starts a few days before your period: symptoms like pain or fatigue and feelings like anger or sadness. Approximately 20 to 50 percent of women of childbearing age experience premenstrual syndrome (PMS). For women living with PMS, there's a period each month when they feel like they're losing control of their emotions and their bodies. Exercise, relaxation techniques, and nutrition can help them regain at least some control. Three to eight percent even have a severe form of PMS, premenstrual dysphoric disorder, or PMDD for short. The cause of these syndromes is fluctuations in the female hormonal balance. PMS doesn't just affect mood and physical condition: according to a new study from Sweden, it can have even more serious consequences. The study found that women with PMS have a roughly ten percent higher risk of cardiovascular disease. NANO talks to gynecologist Mirjam Wagner and comedian and influencer Leonie Schley (@justLeo), who addresses the female cycle on her social media channels – and approaches the topic with humor.
