Wasting Scammers' Time: EE Phone "upgrade" theft scam (scambaiting)

The Major gets an unexpected call from his network provider EE. They say they want to give him a new SIM and a 40% discount - he just needs to "verify" a lot of information. Unsolicited rewards like this are never going to be genuine. In fact this call is not from EE: it's from a bunch of scammers whose devious plan is to buy a new phone using The Major's details, then intercept the package when it is delivered. While this particular call refers to EE, scammers run the same scam for customers of Vodafone, O2, and other networks in different countries. These scammers are persistent and try several methods to finance the crime: Access the victim's account with the network provider, then order an upgraded package with the latest phone handset If that doesn't work, set up a new account with the network provider - this entails stealing the victim's bank account details to set up a new direct debit, then place the order If that doesn't work, steal the victim's credit or debit card details in the name of "verification", then place the order There is no swearing in this one, but I have "bleep"ed out some made-up phone numbers, account information, and an address (so that I can continue to use them in future calls).
