London Overground trains on the East London line – Part 2

Link to Part 1:    • London Overground trains on the East Londo...   This is the second (and for the time being final) part of the film about London Overgroundn trains on the East London line. The East London line is a railway line running north to south just east of the City of London from Highbury & Islington via Shoreditch, Whitechapel, and the Docklands to New Cross. Until 2007 this line was part of the London Underground, where it was operated by subsurface Metropolitan line stock. When the line closed, it was extensively refurbished and reopened in 2010 as part of the London Overground network. Today there are frequent services operated by London Overground’s standard Class 378 “Capitalstar” stock. While the first part of the film focused on the southern end at New Cross Gate and Surray Quays, this part continues at Canada Water, where the London Overground has an interchange with the London Underground Jubilee line. The specious design of the station resembles the other stations of the Jubilee line extension, which is also reflected at the London Overground platforms. We then dive under the Thames and surface at the north bank in the beautiful Wapping neighbourhood. The Overground station here occupies the northern end of a former Thames foot tunnel, constructed between 1825 and 1843. Its platforms are extremely narrow; in fact, they are so narrow that they do not meet the proper safety standards, but the station may nevertheless be operated under a derogation. Finally, we jump a few stations north to Hoxton, where the Overground runs above ground on a beautiful brick viaduct. We observe a few Overground trains at the station, before the film concludes with a few shots of the surrounding streets. Enjoy! Recorded: February 26, 2017.
