Pruning Hydrangea paniculata

Hello viewers! Thank you for joining us on our next adventure in the Garden of Weedin! Today, we are going to be pruning back an ‘Annabelle’ hydrangea. These panicle type shrubs need to be pruned each year before they bloom to encourage flowering. The other more traditional hydragnea varieties need to be pruned after they bloom. Panicle hydrangeas are a versatile plant that can be used as either a fresh cut flower or dried flower. They are sometimes trained into an upright tree standard. The huge, white flowers create a cloudlike appearance in the garden. One Annabelle virtue is that if the deer eat it in the winter, it will still send up new shoots in the spring. Happy gardening!
