GKR Karate Scoring Criteria: Pt 3 Aiuchi

This video covers the nuanced topic of Aiuchi. Aiuchi does not simply imply the simultaneous landing of two techniques, but rather that both competitors WOULD have been hit by their opponent's technique. What does this mean? It means the role of Judges and Referees is not to have to make the tough decision of whether one competitor's technique landed slightly before their opponent's. Combat is NOT a race. Even if one technique lands first, if the officials feel that - were it a real confrontation - both would have been hit, then we consider it Aiuchi. 2. If we consider both competitors would have been hit (even if one lands first), the official's role is to AVOID calling Yame (Stop) and let the bout continue. 3. Both competitors MUST fulfil the Scoring Criteria for a confrontation to be considered Aiuchi. If one competitor lands first, or they land simultaneously, if one competitor does not fulfil the Criteria, their technique should be ignored and their opponent is awarded the point.
