MerCruiser Bravo 2 X Clutch Replacement | MerCruiser Sterndrive Clutch Replacement | Boats.net
See how to replace the clutch in a MerCruiser sterndrive in this video from Boats.net! John has been noticing some chatter at low RPM on this unit. Initially, he thought the culprit might be the U-joints on the input shaft. But then he shifted his suspicions to the clutch. So we’re going to replace this clutch, and that starts by getting the input shaft and U-joints off. Then, we’ll crack open the drive by removing the top and back plates so we can get in there and remove the clutch. We’re going to replace the full assembly here, and that’s all one part that you’ll see below in our parts list. John will show you how to remove and then get everything reassembled. Then, we’ll switch gears to installation. We have a couple of washers and bearings we need to evaluate, and then we can get the clutch in place. We’re going to do a couple more replacements along the way here. We’ll get a new shift linkage as well as a new shift cam. With everything put back together, we’ll get the input shaft back in place. It takes a LOT of torque at 200 foot-pounds, but we’ll show you a chart that allows you to connect your torque wrench to the Mercury spanner wrench and get the correct torque settings that account for your torque wrench's length.
