Mercruiser 5.0 MPI 1(p) - Bravo 3 Leak Repair 2
In this video I’m showing how I replaced the main seal and input driveshaft tapered roller bearings on a Mercruiser 5.0 MPI with Bravo 3 outdrive. Getting the pre-load correct was a time intensive and trial and error process that took me more than one attempt to get right. I made a mistake in not holding the bearing races while reading the preload. I was too focused on reading my beam torque wrench and not paying attention to the task I was doing. I won’t make that mistake again. The preload is now set so I will continue to the next step of installing the driveshaft back in the outdrive housing. When I was preparing to set the preload on the bearings, I used the video below as a reference. In the video the creator doesn’t mention holding the races and only holds them sometimes.
