Success: Colt Walker at 100 Yards
I now feel comfortable saying the Colt Walker is effective to 100 yards (and maybe beyond). While not perfect, I did hit a steal plate at 100 yards three out of six times with the Picket Ball projectile issued to U.S. troops in 1847. The round ball actually performed better and I am very confident with it at 100 yards. With a little work trying different powders, charges, and caps, I am sure a tighter group is possible. Because of ease of loading, and if given the choice as a U.S. soldier, I would have stuck to the good old round ball and done away with trying to load the frustrating Picket Ball. Let me know what you think.
