Frank O'Cain: How to create an abstract painting in acrylic using black and white.

Frank O'Cain's demonstration at the Art Students League of NY on December 9, 2025 shows how to create a black and white abstract acrylic painting.. During the demo, tFrank shows how to create tension from the play between the black positive shapes and the white negative shapes. Frank also shows how to use such elements as saturation and transparency to get more movement from the painting. Frank O'Cain is an important instructor at the Art Students League of New York, introducing generations of students to the basic principles of Abstract Painting developed by Cezanne and Hans Hofmann.
