36 Sockeye Salmon in One Morning! | Alaska Catch, Clean & Smoke

Some Alaska mornings are simply unforgettable. In this episode of Discovering the Last Frontier, the group leaves Bear Cove Retreat before 4:00 AM to catch the tide pushing fresh sockeye salmon into China Poot Creek. After picking up Jacob on the Homer Spit, we head out to one of Alaska's most exciting fisheries. Between snagging and dip netting, our group lands 36 beautiful sockeye salmon. The scenery around China Poot, Kachemak Bay, and Homer Harbor makes the early morning start more than worthwhile. The adventure doesn't stop there. After the salmon run, we head offshore and catch our halibut limit before returning to begin cleaning fish by 10:30 AM. Back at Bear Cove Retreat, we save fifteen salmon collars, soak them in our favorite brine, smoke them to perfection, and finish the day enjoying an incredible meal on the pier overlooking beautiful Kachemak Bay. From breathtaking scenery to fresh wild Alaska seafood, this is exactly why we love living and fishing in Alaska.
