Making sweet and sour Steak and chicken with ingredients I have in my fridge! 🍍 Sweet and Sour Chicken and Beef Serves: 6-8 Prep Time: 20 min | Cook Time: 25 min ⸻ 🥩 Ingredients For the Meat: • 2 lb chicken breast or thighs, cut into 1-inch chunks • 2 lb steak or sirloin, thinly sliced against the grain • Salt (or chicken powder) and pepper to taste • 1.5 cup flour & 1/2 cup cornstarch (for dredging) • Oil for frying (vegetable or peanut oil) Marinade (use same proportion for chicken and steak separately) 1 Whole egg 1 Tbsp white vinegar 1 tbsp chicken powder 1 tsp baking soda 1 tsp sugar 1 Tbsp soy sauce 1 Tbsp oil 1 tbsp Asian cooking wine 1 tsp garlic powder 1 two ginger powder 1/4 cup cornstarch Marinate for 30 mins For the Sauce: • 1/2 cup ketchup & 1/2 cup tomato paste • 1 cup rice vinegar or apple cider vinegar • 1 cup brown sugar • 1/2 cup soy sauce • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce (optional for a richer flavor) • 1 tbsp cornstarch + 2 tbsp water (slurry to thicken) Veggies & Add-ins: • 2 red bell pepper, chopped • 2 green bell pepper, chopped • 2 yellow onion, chopped • 1 cup pineapple chunks (fresh or canned, drained) • 2 cloves garlic, minced • 1 tsp grated ginger ⸻ 🔪 Instructions 1. Prepare the Meat: • Dredge marinated chicken pieces in cornstarch, squeeze in your palm and shake to remove excess • Repeat for the beef slices. 2. Fry: • Heat about 1/2 inch of oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. • Fry chicken pieces until golden and crispy (about 3–4 minutes per side). Set aside on a paper towel. • Do the same with the beef slices. Set aside. 3. Make the Sauce: • In a small bowl, mix ketchup, vinegar, sugar, soy sauce, and Worcestershire sauce. Set aside. • In a separate cup, mix cornstarch and water to create the slurry. 4. Cook the Veggies: • Drain most of the oil, leaving about 1 tbsp in the pan. • Sauté garlic, onion, and peppers for 3–5 minutes until slightly softened. • Add pineapple and ginger (if using), and stir for 1–2 minutes. 5. Combine Everything: • Pour in the sauce mixture and bring to a simmer. • Add the slurry to thicken the sauce (stirring constantly). • Toss in the fried chicken and beef.
