By 2030, the population is expected to approach 250,000, an increase of approximately 100,000 from the current level. In line with this, the city is pushing for the expansion of railway infrastructure, such as the extension of the Wirye-Gwacheon Line to Uiwang, but the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport remains silent. Hong Ji-seon, the Second Vice Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, stated at a press conference, "Currently, the total projects supported by local governments exceed 600 trillion won," adding, "The plan announcement has been postponed to the second half of the year to negotiate an increase in the related budget." As the government's announcement is delayed, disruptions to urban development plans being pursued by local governments have become inevitable. Gunpo City, which is pushing for the extension of the Shinbundang Line in conjunction with the development of the Gunpo-Ansan-Uiwang 3rd New Town, is equally anxious. Although related feasibility studies have been conducted, the project remains at a standstill. They form a railway network that traverses Gyeonggi Province from east to west and north to south, including the extension of the KTX to Paju, the construction of new GTX G and H lines, and the Southern Gyeonggi Metropolitan Railway. Gyeonggi Province urgently needs to expand its railway infrastructure due to large-scale housing developments.
