Bo stops the hearing-specialist from examining his son, and says 'no' to surgery, when he realizes how scared Shawn-D. is. When he calls out "Mommy", Bo attempts to calm his son - After not having much success, Carly uses her motherly instincts to soothe, and reassure the little boy. A strong love-bond between Shawn-D. and Carly. Auntie Kayla, and Steve stop in to visit with Benji. Benji is himself deaf, and Steve suggests that the two of them play together. When Carly attempts to leave, so she can go check on her other patients, little Shawn-D. implores her to stay. Carly stays. When Shawn-D. has calmed down a little, Benji gives him a gift - a book - "Signs for Me" - about Sign-Language. Carly returns after a little while, to check in on Shawn-D.
