An estimated 13 million viewers tuned in to the 13th Annual Soap Opera Digest Awards, which took place at the Universal Amphitheater in Universal City, CA on February 28, 1997. Airing live on NBC, Leeza Gibbons hosted with Austin Peck (Austin, DAYS), Shemar Moore (Malcolm, Y&R) and Ingo Rademacher (Jax, GH). In a huge upset, GH ended DAYS’ winning streak by being awarded Favorite Show.
