He says that there are certain scriptures that have stories, prayers, praises of the lord and knowledge. Some scriptures like the Puranas have mainly only stories in them. But there is one scripture that is filled with piety, knowledge and feelings of devotion. It has no story but is filled with eloquent words. It is a collection of the knowledge in the form of speeches by the ten gurus of the Sikhs, and by great saints and enlightened beings which took hundreds of years to compile. This is called the Shri Guru Granth Sahib. About three hundred years before, when Shri Guru Govind Singh established the Khalsa sect, he said that if one was a true disciple of their guru then they should acknowledge the Guru Granth Sahib as their Guru. It is considered as the living eleventh Guru by the Sikhs and whatever anybody needs to know is already written in it. Om Swami says that the whole of Guru Granth Sahib is filled with beautiful verses and if one sees it from a devotional perspective then it’s a complete scripture and is apt for today’s world.
