Today we're going to delve into the lives of the crew of the USS Enterprise, after their five-year voyage where no man had gone before has come to an end. So let's fire up the warp engines, set them to one, and enjoy the theme tune. Of course, the first one we're talking about is Captain Kirk, intergalactic slob and systematic ignorer of the Prime Directive. James T. Kirk, aka William Shatner. Contrary to popular belief, Shatner didn't fare so well after the series ended. So much so that he even ended up living in a trailer and pursuing a career as a printer. What saved him from that "period," as he called it, was a detail that was completely marginal during the filming of Star Trek. During the years he played Captain Kirk Shatner, he took karate lessons from Tom Bleecker to improve his fight scenes. Shatner became quite good, and this skill was often one of the reasons he was chosen as the villain in auditions. In fact, throughout the 1970s, he appeared in practically all the most famous TV series, from Columbo to Kung Fu. And this allowed him to get ahead, not without difficulty. Another source of income for the actor at the time was guest appearances on TV game shows. The most iconic is his appearance on Pyramid, opposite Leonard Nimoy, in the episode titled "Kirk vs. Spock." In the late 1970s, thanks to reruns and the persistence of fans, Star Trek returned to popularity, and in 1979 he made his film debut with Star Trek: The Motion Picture. This film, which would later be followed by six more films, led to his resurgence. Thanks to this renewed popularity, in 1982 he was offered a role in a new series called The Protectors.
