But before that, Lallantop went on the ground to gauge the pulse of the people of Bihar. In this new series, ‘Hum Bihar Ke Log’, the team spent a day with people from different age groups, classes, and communities to understand their lives. In the second episode of our series, we take you inside the life of a Dom named Akash, who works at the Mukti Dham, cremation ground in Buxar, Bihar. Every day, Akash performs the duty of burning funeral pyres—a responsibility passed down through generations in his family. For Akash and many like him, this is not just a profession but the only means of livelihood. Through his story, we uncover the realities of living as a Dom—far beyond the stereotypes and assumptions that society often carries. This episode shows how Akash and his family navigate the challenges of survival, dignity, and tradition, while breaking many preconceived notions along the way. Join us on this video as we document this raw and deeply human journey from the ghats of Buxar, where life and death come together in ways most of us rarely witness.
