Western Reef Heron Returns! | Chasing the UK's First Ever British Record

A few days after our mad rush to see this incredible bird on the day it was first reported, and after enjoying fantastic views the following morning at Caernarfon Harbour (featured in my previous video), I just had to go back for a third look! The heron had now been present for six days, and I was keen to spend more time watching this historic British first. Unfortunately, I arrived at the worst possible time, with the tide well out and the bird feeding at a considerable distance. Along with several other birders, I settled in to wait for the incoming tide, hoping it would push the heron closer. After a few hours of patient waiting, the bird eventually gave some excellent views before the rising tide covered the grassy area it had been feeding on. With nowhere left to forage, the heron suddenly took flight and disappeared high into the sky. In the days that followed, there were no reliable sightings. It left us wondering whether we had been among the last people to see this mega-rare visitor in North Wales. But the story wasn't over... Just five days later, the Western Reef Heron resurfaced a few miles closer to home at RSPB Conwy. Can I reconnect with this incredible British first and add another chapter to one of the most remarkable birding stories ever seen in the UK?
