9 Days in Slovenia 🇸🇮, Lake Bled/Triglav NP/Vršič Pass/Bovec/Piran/Postojna/Ljubljana, April 2026
Between April 24 - May 2 2026, we embarked on a road trip across parts of Slovenia, a small country in central Europe with a population of around 2M. We did a lot of hiking/sight-seeing in many areas, including Lake Bled, Triglav National Park, Vršič Pass, Bovec/Soča River, Piran, Postojna, and of course Ljubljana. This video is a collection of highlights during this trip. Overall we enjoyed our journey through this peaceful and beautiful country, and we intend to be back to tour the northeast part of the country in the future. We then drove directly to Lake Bled which is only 40min away. The rest of the day was spent walking around the lake and enjoying a nice dinner at a lake-side restaurant 03:21 Day 2: Vintga Gorge and Lake Bled Hikes Day 2's highlight was Vintgar Gorge, the popular destination in Triglav National Park. We walked on a nicely constructed wooden path inside a narrow gorge along a river with crystal clear water for 1.5 miles, then looped back to TH along a countryside trail with wide open views. Total stats is 4.5 miles/800ft gain. In the afternoon, we did another 3.5mi hike near Lake Bled, which took us 900ft up to a couple of highpoints overlooking the lake. After checking out the lake from above, we then rented a small boat and rowed to the island. It was an action packed day 13:01 Day 3: Hike Mt Viševnik On Day 3, our main goal was to hike Mt Viševnik, a 2050m high mountain in the Julian Alps, which has one of the best view of Mt Triglav, the tallest mountain in Slovenia. See linked video below for more details 14:12 Day 4: Vršič Pass Treks Vršič Pass is the highest mountain pass in Slovenia. Prior to the trip we're concerned the pass might not be open due to snow, but luckily that was not the case. To me, driving over this pass (with 50 hairpin turns) and the hikes we did at the top was the highlight of this whole trip. We had to turn around 1 mile into the first hike (Slemenova Spiča) due to deep snow and unsafe condition, but the view along the hike was breathtaking. The second hike was much easier but no less interesting. We ended the day in the town of Bovec, and had a wonderful mixed-meat dinner at a local resturant 23:01 Day 5: Bovec and Soča River I woke up early in the morning and went straight to Slap Boka, the largest waterfall in Slovenia. For the main activity of the day, originally we planned to take a free shuttle bus from Bovec to Soča about 6 miles away, then walk along the famous Soča River back to Bovec. Unfortunately the bus was not running until June 1st, and there was no Uber service in the small town. So we decided to do Bovec Loop hike instead, and took a spur trail along the river for an extra mile. We're very impressed with the turqois blue color of the river, and the 6.5mile hike gave us a good chance to check out Bovec and surrounding area on foot 32:29 Day 6: Slap Kozjak Day 6 was mostly spent on driving from Bovec to the coastal town of Piran, but we did make a stop along the way to check out a wonderful waterfall named Slap Kozjak. It was the only rainy day we had for the whole trip, and the rain/mist only added to the gorgeous scenery along Soča River and the fall itself. This 3-mile hike was wonderfully enchanting and totally worth doing 36:05 Day 7: Piran City Walk Piran is a unique coastal town and popular tourist detination for good reason. The Old Town has lots of Italian style buildings with very interesting narrow streets that are pedestrian only. We did a 2.5 mile walk around the town, starting from the Wall of Piran and ended at Tartini Square. After that we drove north-east to check out a stretch of rocky and secluded beach, before getting back in town to enjoy a delightful seafood dinner. A wonderful day in Piran 45:53 Day 8: Predjama Castle and Postojna Cave We drove back to Ljubljana on Day 8, but made a stop along the way at Predjama Castle and Postojna Cave, both very worthy destinations. Predjama Castle is the largest cave castle in the world. One can easily spend a couple of hrs here touring different rooms of the castle. Postojna Cave was fun to check out too. One gets to ride a train deep into the cave, followed by ranger led walk. We ended the day back at Ljubljana and checked out downtown at night 50:42 Day 9: Ljubljana City Walk and Outro The last day of our trip was spent walking around the capitol city of Ljubljana. We went up to Ljubljana Castle first, climbed up the tower, watched a 4-D movie about the history of the castle. We then got back to town center, walked along the river while checking out various bridges and the city market, sampled some local food. A great way to wrap up our trip in Slovenia #slovenia #julianalps #lakebled #triglav
