Cintura normal… y ¡prediabetes!

Is it possible to have a normal waistline and still develop prediabetes? The answer is yes… and it happens more often than you might think. In this video, I'll tell you about a real case from my office: a 60-year-old man, active, with a healthy weight, an 80 cm waist circumference—excellent for a man—, no family history of diabetes… and yet with elevated fasting glucose and glycated hemoglobin in the prediabetes range. What was going on? I'll also show you a simple way to estimate the risk of visceral fat using something that almost no one measures: the ratio between waist circumference and proximal thigh circumference, a measurement supported by epidemiological and clinical studies. We discuss: Why visceral fat is metabolically dangerous Why the liver can become insulin resistant Why weight and waist circumference don't always tell the whole story And how thigh muscle can be a marker of metabolic health 📩 Newsletter: https://www.doctorbarcha.com/subscribe If you haven't already, I invite you to subscribe to my weekly newsletter. It's a magazine I write with care and send out on Tuesdays and Saturdays, where we continue our conversations in more detail about metabolism, exercise, nutrition, new research, and real cases from my practice, always with a touch of humor, because I believe that when things are explained clearly and with a smile, they're better understood.
