Approximately 25% of Germans suffer from it today, and the number is increasing. The cause isn't alcohol consumption, but rather poor diet and, consequently, obesity. Unlike non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, this form is favored by two factors: 1. Insufficient exercise. 2. Too much sugar and fat in the diet. Whether from alcohol or unhealthy food – in both cases, the liver has to work much harder. This is because it is responsible for digesting our food and drink. If we give it a lot of work, it stores excess energy as fat. According to studies, three groups are particularly susceptible to this. This can make the liver more susceptible to disease and cause inflammation, for example. It becomes particularly dangerous if you do nothing about fatty liver disease. After a certain period of time, it can progress to cirrhosis. The liver is then rarely curable. In the worst case, liver cancer can develop, and those affected can even die from it. But don't worry! If you start treating fatty liver disease right away, you can often avert these consequences. Recognizing Fatty Liver Disease But how do you know if you have fatty liver disease? Here I have listed a few symptoms that could indicate fatty liver disease. A visit to the doctor can provide clarity for these symptoms. Especially in combination with obesity, this can indicate fatty liver disease. But even people of "normal weight" can have fatty liver disease. This is very, very important to know. Fatty Liver Enemies To relieve the burden on fatty liver disease, it's important to change your diet in addition to exercise. But don't start a diet or fasting regime now. What you need now is a healthy and varied diet. However, there are foods you should eat less of. These three categories also feed fatty liver disease: 1.) Sugary foods. 2.) Alcohol. 3.) Fatty foods. Sugar, especially fructose, is the poison of the future. I don't mean fruits and vegetables, but juices, smoothies, etc. Furthermore, "regular" sugar is naturally found in large quantities in sweets. But especially in processed foods, sugar is hidden where you wouldn't expect it. Instead, reach for unsaturated fatty acids. These include vegetable oils. They contain high levels of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, making them healthier alternatives to butter and the like.
