"So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God." — Romans 10:17 1. The Word of God is the Key Ingredient for Faith Acts 14:8–9 The man at Lystra, who was crippled from birth, listened to Paul preaching. As he heard the Word, faith arose within him, and he received the key ingredient for his healing. His miracle was made possible because he first heard the Word of God. Likewise, the woman with the issue of blood had heard about Jesus, and what she heard quickened her faith to receive her healing. 2. Faith Makes the Impossible Possible Mark 11:23–24 Had they not first heard the Word, the impossible would never have become possible. Jesus taught that whoever speaks to the mountain, believes in their heart without doubting, and trusts God's Word, will receive what they have declared. Proverbs 24:10 "If you faint in the day of adversity, your strength is small." In this context, strength refers to faith. Faith grows by hearing the Word of God. The more you hear God's Word, the stronger your faith becomes. Example: The Walls of Jericho The walls of Jericho were beyond Israel's natural strength to overcome. However, by believing God's instruction and acting in faith, they witnessed the walls come down. 1 Samuel 16:9–13 David was disregarded by his own family and was not even considered worthy to stand before the prophet Samuel. Yet when he was anointed, the Spirit of the Lord came upon him, empowering him to become king over Israel. Ecclesiastes 8:4 Just as David received power through the anointing, we too need God's power to make the impossible possible in our lives. Mark 9:23 "If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes." John 6:9–11 Jesus multiplied five loaves and two fish to feed the multitude. This miracle demonstrates that faith makes the impossible possible. 3. Faith is an Invisible Force that Brings Visible Results Hebrews 11:3 Faith enables what is unseen to produce what is seen. It is an invisible force that brings visible results. Example: The Centurion's Faith The centurion said to Jesus, "Just say the word, and my servant will be healed." Jesus marvelled at his faith because he believed without needing to see. Romans 4:17 God "calls those things which do not exist as though they did." Faith believes God's Word before the evidence appears. 4. Faith Makes What is Despised to be Glorified 1 Corinthians 1:27 "But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; and God has chosen the weak things of the world to shame the things which are mighty." Example: David and Goliath David was despised by his family and overlooked because of his youth and inexperience. His brothers possessed military training, strength, and experience, yet they could not defeat Goliath. David overcame the giant because he trusted in the name of the Lord. John 2:1–10 At the wedding in Cana, Jesus transformed ordinary water into the finest wine. What was ordinary and insignificant became glorious through the power of God. Example: Peter's Miraculous Catch Peter had laboured all night using his own knowledge and experience as a fisherman, yet caught nothing. However, at Jesus' word, he obeyed, and his business prospered through a miraculous catch of fish. 📖How Do You Grow Your Faith? Proverbs 4:20–21 •Attend to the Word – Give God's Word your full attention. •Incline your ears to His sayings – Listen attentively and eliminate distractions. Be fully present when the Word is being preached. •Let them not depart from your eyes – Continually see yourself according to what God's Word says about you. •Keep them in the midst of your heart – Meditate on God's Word until it becomes firmly established within you. Faith grows by hearing the Word of God.
