Slow Living in Türkiye | Turkish Breakfast, Migros Grocery Haul & Spicy Pickled Beetroot Recipe

Come along with me for another week of slow living in beautiful Fethiye, Türkiye 🌿 This vlog begins with a cosy Sunday morning spent enjoying a traditional Turkish breakfast at one of our favourite local cafés complete with endless çay, toasties, eggs and lemon gözleme. The next day I head to Migros for my weekly grocery shop, where I’ll show you what I bought and convert the prices from Turkish Lira into GBP, USD and EUR. Back home in my little Turkish kitchen, I make my hot and spicy pickled beetroot recipe using beetroot roasted low and slow overnight, perfect for salads and sandwiches once pickled. My Hot & Spicy Pickled Beetroot Recipe: 1kg beetroot 400ml white vinegar 1 tsp salt 2 bay leaves 1 tsp peppercorns 4 tbsp honey 4 garlic cloves, chopped Optional: sliced chillies for extra heat Method: Roast the beetroot low and slow at 130°C for around 4 hours, until a knife slides through easily. Allow to cool, peel, and slice. Place into a sterilised jar. Add the vinegar, salt, bay leaves, peppercorns, honey and garlic to a pan and bring to the boil. Remove from heat and pour over the beetroot. Seal and refrigerate for a few weeks, the longer it pickles, the better it tastes.
