Maifest Amstetten 2026: Zur "Strafe" einmal Baum Aufstellen!

At the Amstetten May Festival, the maypole was erected in the Mauer district – nothing unusual so far. What was different this year: The Neuhofen/Ybbs Rural Youth Association was assigned to do it as "punishment" – after all, they were the ones who had stolen the maypole last year. A spectacle of sheer muscle power – and we were there! Amstetten May Festival Strengthens Community and Tradition This year's May Festival took place in the Mauer district, which is currently also hosting the state exhibition (as we reported). The traditional raising of the maypole was celebrated with music, food, and a convivial gathering. Mayor Haberhauer emphasized the importance of such festivals for community spirit. Especially in a time when many people are under stress, shared events like this are an important contribution to well-being and social cohesion. The Amstetten May Festival demonstrates how vibrant regional traditions continue to be. Neuhofen Rural Youth Had to Do Their "Punishment" Raising the maypole by hand requires a lot of strength and teamwork, organized by the Neuhofen Rural Youth. Not entirely voluntarily, as they had stolen the maypole from Mauer the previous year – a traditional custom that was humorously addressed this year. In a staged "tribunal," the participants had to face a symbolic punishment, which ultimately ended with a refreshing baptism in the fountain. Even the mayor was jokingly held accountable. In the end, the new maypole stood safely in its place – and will be especially well guarded this year...
