A red-eared slider has swollen eyes caused by the use of an inappropriate water treatment chemicals.

Jun 14, 2018. The red-eared slider is inactive and has swollen eyes. So he stopped eating as he cannot see. The cause is likely polluted water. The owner had bought water treatment chemicals and a granite stone as basking area. I warded him for 3 days. On Day 2 (today, Hari Raya Puasa Aidil Fitri), his eyes opened but he still does not eat. He took another few days to finally recover and go home. The owner is advised not to use the water treatment chemical as the usual tap water in Singapore is OK for red-eared sliders. New granite stones need to be soaked in water for more than two weeks to leach out any chemicals or surface pollutants before being used as a basking platform for the slider.
