BobBlast 444 - "Bob’s Brush Demo"
Weekly BobBlast Issue 444 Bob's Brush Demo Welcome Back to Another BobBlast! This BobBlast is about the paint brushes I use everyday in my studio. Brushes are a popular subject with me - the discussion usually ends with the question - "What type of brush do you use?" I have tried a lot of brushes and the following list are my current choices. At the end of the year, I treat myself to new brushes! My criteria for brushes - I paint in acrylics with gusto, so my favorites are real workhorses and can take my mishandling! I use my brushes not to make pretty pictures, but instead I push gobs of thick paint around, layering thin washes. I prefer large brushes to do this. Bob’s Brushes of Choice: •Miller’s Workhorse Interlocked Bristle Bright #14 Filbert #16 Flat #12 Round #18 Round #12 •American Journey Interlocked Nylon 3/4” Flat 1/2” Flat 1.25” Flat •Cheap Joe’s Catalog 2” Princeton Artist Brush (Gesso Brush) 1.5” Van Hasselt Muslin Brush (Wash only) •Holbein Rockcliffe 210 Long handle Rockcliffe 1/2” and 1” Flat Rockcliffe 1/2” and 1” Filbert Gold 025 2” Wash Brush (Wash only) Tips on applying a liquid acrylic varnish - I brush the varnish on slowly and in one direction (not back and forth). My brush of choice is a soft inexpensive 2” brush I pick up at a hardware store. So the next time someone asks, "What brush did you use?" Just smile. We both know it’s the artist and what they do with the brush. Just smile and say, "BIG."
