The Lake District - Aira Force Waterfall Walk and Ullswater and a wander around Derwent Water 🇬🇧

Earlier this year we sold our car and took to local transport. After about 60 years of enjoying road trips this was a huge change. We still however have two road trips from 2025 to share on YouTube. These will start uploading in the coming months. Before we do share these though we will show a little of what we have been able to enjoy so far in 2026. In May 2026 we took the train to the Cumbrian market town of Penrith for a three night stay. From Penrith we were able to enjoy two days enjoying gentle walks in the English Lake District. First we take a local bus service to a position above a series of waterfalls at Aira Force. The landscapes here are owned and protected by the National Trust and have long been tourist destinations. The picturesque beauty of Lakeland landscapes attracted poets, writers and artists whose works enhanced the appeal for those wishing to get away from rapidly growing cities and enjoy amore natural environment. Pathways through this area are well used. We took a gentle wander beside the rushing streams and along the shore of Ullswater to the village of Glenridding. We then treated ourselves to a boat ride to Pooley Bridge at the far end of this long sinuous waterway. The next day another short bus ride took us to the market town of Keswick. This chief centre of the Northern Lakes sits alongside the beautiful Derwentwater. We followed the lake shore for a circuit of about 11 miles (16km) of gentle pleasure. The views across the water of local Fells (hills & Mountains) were amazing. While not having the convenience of the car we did not have the difficulty of parking and cost. We hope you enjoy these two short walks as much as we did. #england #englishlakes #cumbria #lakedistrict #lakedistrictnationalpark #lakedistrictwalks #penrith #pooleybridge #airaforce glenridding #ullswater #keswick #derwentwater
