Park Rangers Evict Homeless Camper from Venice Beach Restroom in Weekly Cleanup

Venice, Los Angeles - August 9, 2024: A significant multi-agency cleanup operation was conducted on Friday at the Venice Beach restroom and the surrounding beach and boardwalk, focusing on a homeless individual camping in a restroom stall. This operation is part of the City of Los Angeles' broader strategy to address homelessness while enhancing public health and sanitation. The cleanup, which is part of a series of regular Friday efforts along the Venice Beach Boardwalk, was carried out with the coordination of Los Angeles Park Rangers, the Los Angeles Police Department, the Department of Public Works, Clean Harbors Environmental Inc., and the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority (LAHSA). Notably, no citations for public camping violations were issued during the operation, reflecting the city's emphasis on supportive measures over punitive actions. Team members, equipped with protective gear, worked to sort and safely dispose of hazardous and non-hazardous waste. LAHSA was on-site to provide essential support services, including food, water, and hygiene kits, illustrating a compassionate approach to addressing the crisis. While the office of Councilwoman Traci Park’s Homelessness and Housing coordination was not present, this cleanup is part of an ongoing initiative led by her office.
