Sandspur 7 Trials | Race Recap | #Ultramarathon

I ended 2023 with a bang, finishing 2nd place in the Jupiter Sandspur 7 trials! I thought I was going to coast to an easy victory, but some competitors showed up looking for a race, and we battled it out of the 3 days and 102 miles in the sand. Although I was aiming for first place, my fellow competitors pushed me to my limit, allowing me to shatter my goal times and run harder than I thought possible. This race takes place over the ancient sand dunes in Jupiter Florida, giving us flatlanders over 5k feet of elevation gain over the 102 mile stage race. This may not seem like much, but the course is 95% sugar sand, adding some difficulty to those climbs! Day 1 was an 18 miler on Friday night, followed by a 50k Saturday morning, and finished off with 5 separate “mini” trials totaling 51 miles on Sunday. At the end of the weekend, our times for the individual races (or Trial) was added up, resulting in the final overall time. The runner with the lowest total time was declared the winner, bringing home an awesome trophy and some bragging rights.
