BBQ King Prawn Skewers | 2 Easy Marinades Ready in Minutes!
These BBQ King Prawn Skewers are one of the most popular starter/light bite recipes I teach on my BBQ cookery classes. Two simple marinades – fresh Garlic, Lemon & Mint and rich, spicy Nduja – ready in minutes and cooked in just 1 minute per side over the coals! If you're looking for a quick seafood recipe that's packed with flavour, these king prawn skewers are perfect for your next BBQ. Using the same king prawns, I'll show you two incredibly easy marinades that deliver completely different flavours. The fresh garlic, lemon & mint version is light, vibrant and perfect for summer, while the nduja version brings a rich, smoky heat that's hard to beat. These work brilliantly on the BBQ but can also be cooked in an air fryer or oven, making them perfect all year round. ⏱️ TIMESTAMPS: 0:00 - Intro 0:20 - Marinating The King Prawns 1:53 - Skewering The King Prawns 2:25 - Cooking On The BBQ 3:15 - Dressing The Prawns 3:52 - Taste Test Why you'll love this recipe: ✔ Ready in minutes ✔ Two easy marinades using the same king prawns ✔ Perfect for BBQs, air fryers and ovens ✔ Great for entertaining family and friends ✔ One of the most requested recipes from my BBQ cookery classes Ingredients Garlic, Lemon & Mint King Prawn Skewers (2–4 skewers) Raw peeled & deveined king prawns (4 prawns per skewer) Zest of 1 lemon Juice of ½ lemon 1 garlic clove, crushed 10 fresh mint leaves, finely chopped A generous glug of olive oil Spicy Nduja King Prawn Skewers (2–4 skewers) Raw peeled & deveined king prawns (4 prawns per skewer) 1–2 tbsp nduja paste A generous glug of olive oil To Finish Garlic, Lemon & Mint: Extra virgin olive oil Fresh lemon juice Fresh chopped mint Pinch of Salt if preferred Nduja: Extra virgin olive oil Fresh basil, finely sliced Pinch of salt if Preferred Method: Preheat your BBQ for direct cooking. These skewers cook incredibly quickly, so make sure your BBQ is nice and hot before you start. They can also be cooked in an air fryer or oven. I like to work with 4 king prawns per skewer and divide the prawns into small sealable food bags. They're perfect for marinating, easy to mix and mean there's hardly any washing up afterwards. Garlic, Lemon & Mint Add the lemon zest, crushed garlic, chopped mint, lemon juice and olive oil to one bag. Seal and gently massage everything together until the prawns are evenly coated. Spicy Nduja Mix the nduja paste with the olive oil until smooth, then pour it into the second bag. Seal and massage until every prawn is coated. Leave both marinades for 10 minutes only. Any longer and the lemon juice will begin to cure the prawns rather than simply marinate them. Thread 4 prawns onto each pre-soaked wooden skewer. Cook over direct coals for 1 minute per side, or until the prawns are just cooked through. If cooking indoors, simply cook until they're opaque and cooked to your liking. Transfer to a serving board and drizzle both versions with a little extra virgin olive oil. Finish the garlic, lemon & mint skewers with another squeeze of fresh lemon juice and a sprinkle of chopped fresh mint. Finish the nduja skewers with a few strands of fresh basil. Serve immediately and enjoy!
