Route 66 Day 11: Tulsa to Miami | Classic Bridges, The Blue Whale & Historic Roadbeds

Leaving the big city lights behind for the heart of the historic highway! On Day 11 of our Route 66 Centennial Road Trip, Dez and I packed up the 2022 Subaru Outback Wilderness and rolled out of Tulsa, heading northeast toward Miami, Oklahoma. We had an absolutely incredible start to the day. On our way out of Tulsa, we had the honor of meeting Rhys Martin, the President of the Oklahoma Route 66 Association and Preserve Route 66 Manager for the National Trust. He shared some amazing historical insights with us and even gifted me a new pin for my hat—a perfect addition for the journey! www.cloudlesslens.com Instagram: @rhysfunk In this episode: Tulsa to Catoosa: Capturing the Route 66 Rising Statue, exploring the D.W. Correll Museum, and hanging out at the legendary Blue Whale of Catoosa. Claremore to Chelsea: Crossing the Historic Ensen Bridge, stretching our legs at Rogers Point Park, and checking out the Underground Pedestrian Mural in Chelsea. Vinita & Historic Bridges: Photographing the beautiful Historic Route 66 Pryor Creek Bridge and Little Cabin Creek Iron Bridge, exploring the Eastern Trails Museum, and grabbing lunch—a delicious sandwich and soup—at The Nut House! Rolling into Miami, OK: Spotting the Crosstar Flag and Tag and the Will Rogers Highway Marker, before taking the Subaru down the Original Nine-Foot Section of Route 66 Roadbed. We capped off this amazing day admiring the stunning architecture of the historic Coleman Theater. We are actively documenting 100+ iconic landmarks for our upcoming centennial photography book, preserving the architecture and soul of the road 100 years after its birth. 🎵 Music Credit We had to bring him back! The soundtrack for today's drive is provided by none other than Oklahoma Route 66 Hall of Famer Harley Russell! If you remember Harley from our surprise encounter on Day 8 at the Sandhills Curiosity Shop, you know exactly the kind of amazing energy he brings to the Mother Road.
