In this documentary video, I show you the complete restoration of a 200-year-old door from El Toboso (La Mancha), a historic piece that was part of an old traditional La Mancha gateway. This is a work of artisanal restoration, heritage conservation, and structural transformation, where we converted one of its leaves into a modern and functional passageway door, without losing its original essence. During the first phase, we removed the old perimeter frame and carried out a thorough cleaning to eliminate dirt, rust, limescale, past treatments, and old layers of paint. Then, we performed a careful stripping process, respecting the centuries-old wood grain and revealing its original texture. In the structural phase, we incorporated an internal core to reinforce the door and guarantee stability for decades. We reconstructed reliefs, moldings, panels, and areas affected by damp or wood-boring insects, maintaining every artisanal detail typical of traditional La Mancha carpentry. We installed a completely new, hand-fitted frame and added a period beam to give it authenticity and aesthetic coherence with the local historical architecture. The goal: to unite craftsmanship, robustness, and historical accuracy. After the structural repair, we carried out complete thermal insulation, ideal for modern homes seeking energy efficiency without sacrificing antique charm. We stained the wood, respecting its original tone, and applied a long-lasting protective varnish to enhance the grain and protect the door from temperature changes, humidity, and daily use. To maintain the period aesthetic, we installed antique hinges, an invisible lock, and restored the rustic presence that characterizes the heritage of La Mancha. Every detail of the hardware was handcrafted to perfectly match the weight, thickness, and history of the piece.
