This Cañaveral gate spent years buried, swallowing water, mud, and neglect. They poured layers and layers of paint over it… as if they wanted to hide its history. But wood, when it has a soul, endures. In this video, I show you step by step how we restored this century-old gate, respecting every detail of its original structure. We remade the hand-carved panels, replaced the crossbar and the comb with unroasted chestnut, grafted it piece by piece, and buttressed it as it was done before. Now it breathes again. It's not just about restoring. It's about giving back its soul to time. It's about giving a future to something that time tried to erase. ________________________________________ 🔨 RESTORATION PROCESS: • Cleaning and stripping old layers of paint. • Replacing lost pieces with unroasted chestnut wood. • Grafting and assembling with a tenon and mortise system. • Reintegration of hand-carved panels. • Restoration of original forged hardware and nails. • Structural adjustments made using artisanal doweling. • Finished with natural dyes and beeswax. Each door has been handmade at El Taller del Quijotte, in El Toboso (La Mancha), using the same techniques used by master carpenters centuries ago. ________________________________________ 📜 ABOUT THIS WORK: This restoration is part of the Centenary Doors of La Mancha series, where we rescue historical elements and return them to their original state.
