🌍 Exploring Kampala with a Local Guide 🇺🇬 | Real Market Life, Independence Monument & Kabaka’s Lake Day 17 of Africa Bicycle Tour | Discovering Uganda’s Capital City Since my Nepali brothers in Kampala were busy today, I decided to hire a local guide for the day and explore Uganda’s capital city — Kampala — with fresh eyes and deeper understanding. I paid him 30,000 Ugandan Shillings, and together we visited some important cultural and historical places. 🛵🗺️ 🧺 First stop: A busy local market. This was not a tourist place — it was a huge market full of local life, where people sell: Fresh vegetables and fruits 🥬🍌 Clothes and shoes 👕👞 Household goods and more It was crowded and colorful, but also intense. One man even shouted at me, saying “Go back to India”, misunderstanding my nationality. I calmly walked on — because I know I’m here as a Nepali traveler, promoting peace and culture. These things happen — and are part of the travel experience too. 🗽 Next stop: Uganda’s Independence Monument. This statue was built in 1962, the year Uganda became independent from British colonial rule. It’s a tall, powerful figure of a man breaking free from chains — symbolizing the freedom of the Ugandan people. It reminded me how every nation has a story of struggle and pride. 🌊 Final stop: Kabaka’s Lake. One of Africa’s largest man-made lakes, built by the King (Kabaka) of Buganda. The lake was quiet, surrounded by green, and people were relaxing near the shore. It’s a peaceful spot away from the noisy city. 🏙️ More about Kampala: Kampala is not just a city — it’s the economic, political, and cultural capital of Uganda. It’s home to: Government buildings Major universities Business centers and international companies Crowded markets and local life It’s busy, it’s messy, it’s energetic — and full of stories. But in one day, there are only so many places you can visit. After a full tour, I returned to my place and rested.
