Meet the man who really knows how to reinvent himself - Sunduzwayo Madise. Starting off as an Engineer having worked for MTL and ESCOM, led a few staff unions and formed more, rose in sports administration to become the vice president of the Football Association of Malawi, Sunduzwayo Madise now holds a PHD in Law and teaches at the Chancellor College - University of Malawi. He was once Dean of Law at the university. He opens up to me about how the case involving him and the Sports Council of Malawi affected. Serious revelations had been made at a Blantyre Magistrate Court alleging that Madise had tried to bribe some match officials during a World Cup first qualifying round first leg match against Kenya in Blantyre in April, 2000. Dr. Madise was arrested after the Anti-Corruption Bureau took up the matter and sent a team of investigators to South Africa. He was subsequently suspended form the FA executive and later got fired. He was tried, convicted and slapped with a suspended sentence. He maintains he is innocent and was a victim of tribalism or sheer football politics. For someone who has been through so much, Dr. Madise seems to have rebuilt a whole new person and character and is one of the most respected (and vocal!) legal minds in Malawi.
