INSANE JET ENGINE SOUNDS: 16 Cylinders EMD 710G3B Notch-up and Load Testing!!!

Startup, Engine Idling, Load Testing and Shutdown of WDP4B locomotive! The WDP4 and variants in the Indian Railways feature the 16 cylinder EMD 16-710G3B Diesel Engine which produces one of the most amazing sounds by railroad diesel locomotives ever. This video was specially arranged to showcase the insane sounds produced by the engine at all notches. The video also covers cranking and shutdown process of the engine. I convey special thanks to Diesel Locomotive Shed Tughlakabad, Northern Railways for making this video happen. 00:00 - Walkaround 01:30 - Cranking 02:30 - Idling 06:35 - Warming up 08:25 - Load Testing 14:15 - Shutdown At Tughlakabad shed, the most famous and celebrated locomotive among rail admirers was chosen to feature in this video, fortunately it being present in the shed. The WDP4BH 40079 was named 'Prateek' on the occasion of Diesel Locomotive Works' (DLW) Golden Jubilee Celebration in January 2014. The locomotive rolled out with a special and striking red livery and since then it has become a celebrity among railfans across the nation! It is also equipped with Head-on Generation (HOG) system which provides power to the train from the locomotive itself. The unique name and livery were given to commemorate the Golden Jubilee of DLW as well as introduction of Head-on Generation system of power supply in HHP diesel locomotives. The Hotel load supply of 750 V, 50Hz, 3 phase AC supply is fed to coaches from a diesel power car through IV coupler. The power for the Hotel load converter is derived from DC link of the locomotive. Firstly Power from DC link is fed to Buck Chopper then to Inverter Panel. The Inverter receives power from DC link (through Buck Chopper) with a voltage varying from 1200V to 2600 V and converted to fixed 1050Volt DC which is input to the Inverter. Inverter provides a suitable output supply at 750±5%, 3 phase 50Hz The Hotel Load Converters is rated for 500KVA power which is compatible with existing EOG Power cars. Engine idle sound of EMD 16-710G3B prime mover of WDP4B locomotive. Details of the Locomotive and Engine are as follows: Weight of Locomotive: 117T Axle load: 20.2T Engine make and type: 710 G3B Governor: Woodward Weight of engine: 17963 Kg (dry) Number of cylinders: 16 Cylinder formation: 45 degree V type Compression Ratio: 16:1 Horsepower: 4505hp Input to Traction: 4150hp Rated RPM: 960 Injection System: Direct Unit Injector Turbo Supercharger make and type: EMD Model G Weight of turbocharger: 953 Kg Fuel Tank (detachable) capacity: 5000 litres Traction motor gear ratio: 17:77 The WDP4B was the first attempt of the Railways to improve upon the successful WDP4 locomotive. The Bo1-1Bo was found inadequate for hauling 24 coach passenger trains due to the reduced tractive effort. As a result, DLW, reconfigured the chassis to be Co-Co instead. This led to better adhesion with the rails to provide better acceleration with heavy trains. Moreover, the original EMD 710 engine was tweaked to produce an output of 4,500 HP instead of the original 4,000 HP. this Up-rated engine was designated as EMD 16N-710G3B-EC, with an RPM of 910 at Notch-8. This locomotive came to be known as the "GT46PACe". One more important change added to this loco was the inclusion of Blended Brake System. This was added to maximise the use of Dynamic brakes by the loco-pilot and therefore minimise the wear and tear on the fixed brake rigging of the coaches and the locomotive. The addition of blended brake is responsible for the subclass to be designated with a 'B'. Some more features are the widened piggy-face cab profile to aid visibility, change in the Traction Motor blower by installing a higher power motor and increase in the axle load to 20.2 tonnes (19.9 long tons; 22.3 short tons). The locomotive also has a self-load test feature that allows it to test the net output of the engine. The WDP4B locomotive is equipped with a turbocharged 16-cylinder 2-stroke 710 G3B diesel engine. This engine has high fuel efficiency and requires low maintenance. The fuel efficiency of this locomotive is better than the existing locomotives. This engine has many modern features like, laser hardened cylinder liners, unit fuel injectors which eliminate the problematic HP tube, inconel valves, hydraulic valve adjuster, durable crankcase and piston structure. The diesel engine drives the main alternator. This locomotive has been designed to run up to maximum operating speed of 140 Km/h on Broad Gauge routes of Indian Railways for passenger service. The tractive effort limiting switch has been provided in the driver cab of the locomotive & may be operated by the crew at the time of requirement.
